A Fallen Star: Selena Viva

ISBN: 978-0-8059-8687-7
by Puentes A Fallen Star is a tribute to Selena and was started the day she died, March 31, 1995. Young children who were CCD students from St. Edwards Catholic Church were crying and creating sympathy cards. One of the students asked me to write a poem. I wrote A Tribute to Selena, the first of many short stories. They are fictional, but most were created by things Ive seen, done, or experienced. I refer to stories I remember from my childhood, like The Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Ugly Duckling, and even religious stories like The Prostitute and stories about Abe, Jobe, and Abraham. They are not plagiarized but are used to get readers attention. Then the name Selena is inserted. Each story is then ended with a religious theme, making readers feel good about themselves. I even use rock-n-roll themes, which make myself feel good as well and helps me remember a wonderful Tejanas short-lived story of stardom ending tragically. This book, A Fallen Star, is for all who enjoyed Selena and will never forget her and her wonderful music. This is my way of saying to all who loved her, Selena Viva. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Born in 1946 in Dallas, Texas, I am the son of Catalina Garcia and Santiago Puentes Hernandez. I played many sports: soccer, football, baseball, fishing, boxing, karate, and swimming. During later years, while I was in the U. S. Marine Corps, my mother commented on my writings, saying, See, I told you you could write, as she reminded and encouraged me to be a writer. In S. S. Conner Junior High School, I was a cub reporter. Then during my mothers last few years, I would read all my Selena short stories, and my mother would quietly smile. Yes, I knew she loved my writing. Mom, this book is about my favorite Tejano singer and yours, too. ~ From your loving son, Rick. (2007, paperback, 176 pages) Availability: Usually ships in 2-3 business days.
