by Marcia VanDewark Marcia VanDewark has a Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo. For several years, she was a professor in the English Department of Erie Community College in New York State. She served as a graduate assistant to an ECC president and as a coordinator of the English Department at ECC North Campus. For more than twenty years, Marcia has coordinated nonprofit groups and currently serves as president of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition - New York. Although she had some of her poems published when she was a high school student, she did not write again until she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Sketching and writing poetry helped her cope with the powerful emotions that accompanied her cancer. It is her hope that her poems will bring comfort not only to cancer patients, but to all people who are coping with difficult situations.
