Go, Jonus, Go

Jonus Neuburr tells his grandchildren about his early life in Kentucky and Missouri. After the death of his father, he is sent to live with a skinflint uncle. At age fifteen, he runs away to his mothers home in Elizabethtown. He goes to work on riverboats on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers.

Tired of river life, he moves to St. Louis. There he meets new friends and has several dangerous adventures. In 1859 his entire family travels by wagon train to California. All this takes place during the political unrest of the 1850s.

Shirley Klatte was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. At age three, her family moved to a dairy farm in Central Minnesota. Her education began in a one-room school house. After high school, she continued her education at St. Cloud State College. There she earned a bachelor of science degree in education. She taught high school classes in physical education, history, and geography.

After retirement from teaching, she continued life on the family farm. There she maintains a market garden. Her hobbies include music, photography, and horticulture. She has written short stories and a cookbook, all unpublished.
