The Affair recounts the experiences of John Knight as he chases an ideal woman who seems to exist only in his dreams. At first he believes that these as simply erotic fantasies, but as time passes he becomes seduced by the young woman and recedes further into his dreams. A therapist tells John that his dreams are rooted in his failure to reconcile with his wife. He returns home to confess his fantasies to his wife, but in a jealous rage she belittles him and drives him further into believing his dreams are real. In desperation she commits him to a psychiatric hospital. Released months later, John sets out to find Christine. Is The Affair real, or is she just part of his imagination?
